How to use digoxin
The ideal way to use digoxin is to follow the instructions of your doctor. An alternative way is to check the medicine label for dosage instructions.
digoxin should/may be taken with or without a meal to avoid stomach problems.
Preferably, digoxin should be taken at the same time each day to help maintain a regular routine for taking it.
You must not stop taking digoxin without consulting your doctor even if you attain relief after a short while post starting treatment.
Drug Class and Mechanism
digoxin is a digitalis glycoside. It works by increasing the force of contraction of the heart and slowing the heart rate
It is important that you maintain a strict schedule for taking digoxin to ensure that you do not miss any doses. But if you do, then you may take it as soon as you remember provided that you space out the next dosage accordingly.
If you missed a dose you can take the dose upto 12 hours late. If 12 hours passed then it is advisable to omit the dose and take the next one.
Never consume two doses to compensate for a missed dosage.
Store digoxin between 68 to 77 degrees F (20 and 25 Degrees),brief storage at temperatures between 59 and 86 degrees F ( 15 and 30 degrees C). Ensure that you protect it from direct exposure to heat/moisture/light and from the reach of children and pets.
Consult your doctor before using digoxin if you have conditions like beriberi,certain types of heart diseases like ventricular defibrillation.
Do not use digoxin if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in it (read medicine label if unsure).
