FML Forte is prescribed for the treatment of certain conditions (inflammation like swelling, warmth, redness, pain ) that affect the eyes and eyelids. However, your doctor may also prescribe FML Forte for other conditions if found appropriate.
How to use FML Forte
The ideal way to use FML Forte is to follow the instructions of your doctor. An alternative way is to check the medicine label for dosage instructions.
FML Forte should/may be taken with or without a meal to avoid stomach problems.
You should wash your hands before using FML Forte. Start off by tilting your head back and using your index finger to pull back the lower eyelid forming a pouch to drop the medicine into it. Now gently close the eyes and take care to remove any excess medication around the eyelids.
Ensure that you do not touch the applicator to any surface to prevent it from being infected by germs. If you are using multiple eye medications, then contact your doctor to know the best order to use them.
Avoid using contact lenses while using FML Forte and please sterilize your contact lenses according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Drug Class and Mechanism
FML Forte belongs to a group of drugs called corticosteroids, the exact working of which is unknown.
It is important that you maintain a strict schedule for taking FML Forte to ensure that you do not miss any doses. But if you do, then you may take it as soon as you remember provided that you space out the next dosage accordingly.
On the other hand, if it is almost time for the next dose, then omit this dose and continue with your normal dosage schedule.
Never take two doses to compensate for a missed dosage.
Store FML Forte between 59 to 77 degrees F (15 and 25 Degrees), at room temperature. Ensure that you protect it from direct exposure to heat/moisture/light and from the reach of children and pets.
Avoid storing FML Forte in the bathroom.
Do not use FML Forte if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in it (read medicine label if unsure), you have a viral infection of the eye (e.g., herpes), a fungal or tuberculosis infection of the eye, certain untreated eye infections (e.g., infections producing pus or discharge), or vaccinia or chickenpox infection.
FML Forte may cause problems like blurred vission so potentially hazardous tasks like driving, handling heavy machinery should also be avoided.
If you are pregnant or have plans for a pregnancy, then consult your doctor before using FML Forte as FML Forte may harm your fetus.
If you are breast feeding then please maintain caution as it is unknown whether FML Forte is passed into the breast milk. So please consult your doctor prior to using it.
You may be required to undergo certain lab tests including eye pressure while taking FML Forte. These tests are prescribed to monitor the progress as well as the severity of side effects. Please do not miss any lab appointments.
Please maintain caution while using FML Forte in children below 2 years of age as the safety as well as effectiveness of FML Forte in these patients is yet to be ascertained.
