Levlen is a hormonal birth control pill that is used for the prevention of pregnancy. It prevents ovulation, alters the cervical mucus and changes the uteral lining.

How to use Levlen

The ideal way to use Levlen is to follow the instructions of your doctor. An alternative way is to check the medicine label for dosage instructions.

Levlen may be taken with or without a meal.

Preferably, Levlen should be taken at the same time each day to help maintain a regular routine for taking it. Birth control pills must be taken with utmost precision.

You must not stop taking Levlen without consulting your doctor even if you attain relief after a short while post starting treatment.

Missed Dose

It is important that you maintain a strict schedule for taking Levlen to ensure that you do not miss any doses. But if you do, then you may take it as soon as you remember provided that you space out the next dosage accordingly.

If you miss more than three active doses in a row then discard the pack and start afresh. If you have missed three or fewer doses then take a double dose for an equal number of doses.

Alternatively, you may also use two different methods of contraceptives while using the drug.

Store Levlen between 59 to 77 degrees F (15 and 25 Degrees), at room temperature. Ensure that you protect it from direct exposure to heat/moisture/light and from the reach of children and pets.

Avoid storing Levlen in the bathroom.

Although there are no reported cases of a Levlen overdose, you must contact your doctor immediately if you suspect an overdose.

Consult your doctor before using Levlen if you have bleeding problems (e.g., menstrual changes, clotting problems), heart problems (e.g., congenital valve conditions), migraine headaches, diabetes, and any allergies, if you have any kind of allergies to food items, medicines or other substances, if you are using some kind of herbal preparation, dietary supplement, prescription or non prescription drug.

Do not use Levlen if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in it (read medicine label if unsure), if you are pregnant or suspect you are pregnant, uterine problems (e.g., cancer, endometriosis, fibroids, pelvic inflammatory disease or PID), vaginal problems (e.g., infection), liver disease or tumors, disease affecting your immune system (e.g., AIDS, leukemia), breast cancer, previous ectopic pregnancy, other IUD (intrauterine device) still in place.

You must avoid taking alcoholic beverages while using Levlen as it can increase the chances of becoming drowsy, faint or dizzy. Potentially hazardous tasks like driving, handling heavy machinery should also be avoided.

If you are pregnant or have plans for a pregnancy, then consult your doctor before using Levlen as Levlen may harm your fetus.

If you are breast feeding then please maintain caution as it is unknown whether Levlen is passed into the breast milk. So please consult your doctor prior to using it.
