How to Use Pulmicort

The ideal way to use Pulmicort is to follow the instructions of your doctor. An alternative way is to check the medicine label for dosage instructions. The drug also comes with a medical guide which should be carefully read to understand the dosage and use.

Pulmicort drug is available in the form of inhalers, so the only medium to consume it is to inhale it from your mouth.

In case of usage for the first time, priming of inhaler is required. The cover or the inhaler should be twisted and and lifted off and it should be held in the upright direction and turn your grip fully in one direction, then fully in the other direction until it creates click sound. You should avoid shaking the inhaler. Place the mouthpiece between your lips and inhale forcefully and deeply. In case you do not feel the medicine in your mouth. Remove the inhaler from your mouth and breathe out. Do NOT breathe out through the inhaler. Turn your head away from the inhaler and breathe out fully and repeat the process.

Biting or chewing inhaler is prohibited.

Replace the mouthpiece cover after each use.
Please do not reprime the inhaler. Repriming is needed only for once and only incase when you left it untouched for a longer duration. previous steps.
Rinse your mouth with water after each use to help prevent mouth or throat infections. Do not swallow the rinse water. Spit it out.

The inhaler has a counter located below the mouth piece, it helps you to keep a track of the number of dosages taken by you. The counter actually is seen to move after every 5 doses.

You must not stop taking Pulmicort without consulting your doctor even if you attain relief after a short while post starting treatment.

Drug Class and Mechanism
Pulmicort is a corticosteroid meant for inhaling. It works on a mechanism of decreasing irritation and swelling in the airways, which ultimately helps to control or prevent asthma symptoms.

Missed Dose

It is important that you maintain a strict schedule for taking the drug to ensure that you do not miss any doses. But if you do, skip the missed the dose and go for your scheduled medication.

Never consume two doses to compensate for a missed dosage.


Store Pulmicort between 59 to 77 degrees F (20 and 25 Degrees), at room temperature. The container should be kept in an upright position. Ensure that you protect it from direct exposure to heat/moisture/light and from the reach of children and pets.

Avoid storing Pulmicort in the bathroom.

Consult your doctor before using the drug if you have conditions like, if you have any kind of allergies to food items, medicines or other substances, if you are using some kind of herbal preparation, dietary supplement, prescription or non prescription drug.

Do not use the drug if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in it (read medicine label if unsure) or if you are pregnant or have plans for a pregnancy, and a breast feeding mother or if you have problems like if you have increased pressure in the eye; glaucoma; cataracts; a herpes infection of the eye; a bacterial, fungal, or parasitic infection; a viral infection diarrhea; measles; tuberculosis; or osteoporosis or if you have had a positive tuberculosis skin test or have recently been vaccinated.

The Drug can interact with certain medicines. So, you must inform your doctor if you are taking Hormonal contraceptives, imidazole antifungals, or macrolide antibiotics, or Barbiturates. These might add to your problems or might make Pulmicort less effective. So always consult with your doctor before using the drug.

There appears a red mark on the inhaler, this signifies you are not left with much of Pulmicort drug and be cautious enough to get a new one for you before it finishes and leaves you in trouble.
