How to use Yasmin
The ideal way to use Yasmin is to follow the instructions of your doctor. An alternative way is to check the medicine label for dosage instructions.
Yasmin if taken during the first 24 hours of period can even let you not use any other birth control pills.
If yasmin is to be started you may also need to take an other form of pill for 7 days.
Yasmin should/may be taken with or without a meal to avoid stomach problems.
Take Yasmin at the same time every day, not more than 2 hours apart. After taking the last pill in the pack, start taking the first pill from a new pack the very next day.
Yasmin should be taken with a full glass of water.
Yasmin should be swallowed whole taking care that you do not crush or chew it before swallowing it.
Preferably, Yasmin should be taken at the same time each day to help maintain a regular routine for taking it.
You must not stop taking Yasmin without consulting your doctor even if you attain relief after a short while post starting treatment.
Drug Class and Mechanism
Yasmin is a female hormonal progesterone and estrogen combination. Its mode of action is through ovulation and thus thickening cervix.
It is important that you maintain a strict schedule for taking Yasmin to ensure that you do not miss any doses. But if you do, then you may take it as soon as you remember provided that you space out the next dosage accordingly.
On the other hand, if it is almost time for the next dose, then omit this dose and continue with your normal dosage schedule.
Never consume two doses to compensate for a missed dosage.
Store Yasmin between 68 to 77 degrees F (20 and 25 Degrees), at room temperature. Ensure that you protect it from direct exposure to heat/moisture/light and from the reach of children and pets.
Avoid storing Yasmin in the bathroom.
Consult your doctor before using Yasmin if you have conditions like history of blood clotting problems, severe blood clots (e.g., in the lungs, legs, eyes), certain blood vessel problems (e.g., bleeding in the brain, heart attack, stroke), or breast cancer; heart problems (e.g., heart valve problems, certain types of irregular heartbeat); chest pain caused by angina; certain blood problems (e.g., porphyria); certain types of headaches or migraines with aura; severe or uncontrolled high blood pressure; diabetes that affects circulation; endometrial, cervical, or vaginal cancer; estrogen-dependent growths; or undiagnosed abnormal vaginal bleeding;you have kidney disease, adrenal disease, liver disease or liver tumors, or a history of yellowing of the eyes or skin , if you have any kind of allergies to food items, medicines or other substances, if you are using some kind of herbal preparation, dietary supplement, prescription or non prescription drug.
Do not use Yasmin if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in it (read medicine label if unsure).
You must avoid taking alcoholic beverages while using Yasmin as it can increase the chances of becoming drowsy, faint or dizzy. Potentially hazardous tasks like driving, handling heavy machinery should also be avoided.
If you are pregnant or have plans for a pregnancy, then consult your doctor before using Yasmin as Yasmin may harm your fetus.
If you are breast feeding then please maintain caution as it is unknown whether Yasmin is passed into the breast milk. So please consult your doctor prior to using it.
Yasmin can interact with certain medicines. So, you must inform your doctor if you are taking
Use of yasmin is strictly prohibited if you are over 35 yrs of age
Smoking is totally contraindicated in this so chould be totally careful while using yasmin
Use of certain drugs might reduce the efficiency of yasmin so have a thorogh check over it or unprotected sex might result in pregnancy.
Bleeding or spotting might be caused during its use so should be careful.
Please remember that Yasmin does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases like HIV or against an unwanted pregnancy.
